Bangladesh bans Facebook, Whatsapp and Viber over “Security”

Restricting citizens from information flow is morally a wrong deed but many government do not bother to this fact.
Recently it was reported that Bangladesh authorities insisted on almost a weeklong ban on Facebook and mobile messaging services. They want to ban the services until security in the tense country improved.

On Wednesday, the government last ordered Facebook, WhatsApp and Viber blocked to be blocked over fears of unrest after the country’s highest court rejected appeals by two top opposition leaders against the death penalty for war crimes.

The telecoms regulator said the ban would stay after the two leaders were hanged on Sunday morning, prompting calls for a nationwide strike and raising fears of violence from their supporters.

“They [services] will be reopened the moment the government feels it’s safe,” Shahjahan Mahmud, chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission, told AFP. Commission spokesman Zakir Hossain Khan declined to confirm media speculation the ban would be lifted later Tuesday.

In a response, analysts said that the shutdown was aimed for stopping opposition parties organizing rallies in the run-up to the executions, amid anger over what rights group have called “flawed and unfair” war crimes trials.

The regulator also temporarily banned messaging services Viber and Tango in January after they became a popular way of mobilizing large numbers of activists for anti-government protests.

In recent past, Bangladesh also hanged Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid, from the country’s biggest Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury, a key aide of opposition leader Khaleda Zia, after they were convicted of atrocities during the 1971 war against Pakistan.

History is evident that social media and social media apps play the key role in modern revolutions and thus the governments do not take a chance for let the citizens come forward and speak for their rights.

A large number of Bangladeshis slammed the ban on Twitter, saying it was curbing free speech and further fueling anger against the government.

This is not it, but the Bangladesh’s fast-growing online retail industry said the ban has hit their business, with some reporting reduced sales.

Such a ban on social media is an attack on free speech and depicts the insecurities of the government regarding people’s rights.

Pakistan: A land of opportunity (For Corrupt)

Suggested Steps to Eradicate Corruption

It is a common practice among political parties to condone corruption acts of previous government to ensure there is no political instability during their tenure. This way there is continuity of democracy thence they can complete their five years of government. This period of stable governance bestows opportunities of such corruption on them as well.

Condoning of corruption is a heavy cost of democracy in Pakistan. It would be safe to assert that Pakistan has the most expensive democracy per capita in the world!  Writer leaves a question for readers to ponder upon: Is it worth to have such an expensive democracy?

Our political system with multi-layered redundant governments, gives such corruption opportunities and helps hide these acts as well, to these political actors and their beloved bureaucrats.

It is simply amazing, politicians who have had meager means have become multi-billionaires and no one questions them about the source of all their wealth.

Similarly, bureaucrats whose salaries are known fact, drive around in expensive cars and live in big bungalows. For God’s sake that should be easy enough to figure out that this all came from corruption! Yet no one is there to question them.

Trillion of rupees have been looted by these politicians and bureaucrats in last few years alone, but no steps have been taken to retrieve such huge amount.  National Accountability Bureau, essentially an arm of the government is expected to be neutral, fair and actually go after perpetrators of corruption. But can it be?

This situation gives others encouragement that they could indulge in such corruption and not be questioned let alone punished.

Why would businessmen and other income earners pay taxes? They know that a big percent of the money government collects is wasted and looted in corruption.

In writer’s view there are two kinds of corruption that prevails in Pakistan; financial and non-financial:
Non-financial corruption could be explained as position holders not owning their position meaning; not doing job properly or use their position to drive non-financial benefits such as giving jobs to people of their liking whether they are qualified or not, in other words indulge in nepotism.

On the other hand, financial corruption is when a position holder takes advantage of his position to make money which he is not supposed to.

Steps Needed to Drastically Reduce Corruption:
Like they say when there is a will there is a way. Here are certain stern steps need to be taken to eradicate this menace from our society.

Reduce Size of Government by Changing the Structure

We have multi-level overlapping redundant government structure. This provides opportunities for corruption in many different levels, i.e; from top to bottom and many levels in between. These are further multiplied at provincial levels and local government levels.

This multi-level government structure sophisticatedly help hiding of corruption by playing the blame game.

We are a poor country thus cannot afford such government structure.

Pakistan must adopt a simplistic hierarchical government structure proposed by the writer elsewhere, in order to ensure least chances of corruption and save funds so they can be used on the betterment of poor masses.

Eliminate Develop Funds:

Develop funds are intended for developmental and social programs. However, the most of these funds are used for political gain or end up in personal pockets of MNAs or MPAs. These funds must be expended on the people in proportion of population by pertinent ministries instead of giving to members of the parliament.

Disallow Discretionary Funds be expended by Politicians:

These funds must be appropriated to department budgets rather than leaving on political leaders’ discretion to give when and how they will. Examples being announcing rewards to players who perform well in a certain sport or announcing help to flood victims, however, not promulgating a concrete policy and making funds available for sports teams and planning to control floods.

These kinds of announcements provide photo-ops and helps leaders with political point scoring. Similarly for floods, nation faces flood disaster every year but no planning is done and no money is spent on permanent solutions. This is a prime example of political corruption.

Enforce Accountability:

State should confiscate all the assets of politicians and big bureaucrats. State should confiscate all the assets of politicians and big bureaucrats say from past 25years (randomly selected) which reflect beyond their filed income taxes. Let them prove (burden of proof be on them) that they made these assets through legitimate means and then get their assets redeemed. However, then state must question their taxes filed (whether in Pakistan or outside) if their income reported does not reconcile with their claimed income.

All Systems must be in Place:

All systems starting from exposure, conviction and public punishment of corrupts should be in place and applied consistently. Exemplary punishment should be given to convicted corrupts so no one will consider doing even iota of corrupt act.

Laws should be enacted and fiercely enforced. If a foreign or domestic company offers kickbacks to politicians or bureaucrats then that company should be banned for life from participating in state business.

All Institutions must be made Small, Strong and Independent: Every effort must be made to make institutions strong and independent. Reduce size of institutions but make them stronger. Judiciary, FBR, FIA, Police, etc. must be independent of political pressures. Bureaucracy should be replaced with technology as much as possible.

Bring in Transparency by Extensive use of Technology:

Transparency is one of the best ways to control if not totally eliminate corruption. If technology is used to show flow of finances intra and inter-departments then people cannot hide funds and use ways to get them in their pockets.
All the government departments should have a website with complete details including finances that department is handling.

Decision making must be computerized by point-system or Yes/No answers so decisions are not on total discretion of power that be. This will help control or eliminate nepotism as well as awarding of business to companies which do not qualify against kickbacks.

Organizational structure of all departments must be made public so unnecessary hiring is checked.
Use of extensive technology will help place internal controls within organizations.

Watch & Tell and Whistle Blower Protection:

Laws must be enacted that will give full protection to people who watch within an organization and tell what is going on. People should feel at ease to expose corrupt acts of their colleagues whether they are their bosses or subordinates.

Give Public Access to Technology at grass root level:

Public must be able to get their business done with the government using technology so they are not on the mercy of bureaucrats. Public should be able to access records of different departments and be able to question in case of being incorrect.

Computerization of All Public Records:

Computerized records cannot be easily manipulated. Bids on projec
ts and auctioning of state owned assets should be put on department websites so public knows who bid what and who ended up buying the asset. Similarly, same procedure used be employed when purchasing goods or services.

Departments e.g., NADRA & FBR, FIA, Police must be interconnected:

Information sharing between departments makes it easy to check on records and makes it easy to catch miscreants.

Journalist Duty:

Journalists feel they have done their job by pin pointing corruption. However, they fail to follow through and ensure these corruption episodes are brought to justice. They must stick to their story and force departments or people in charge to take action.

Social Engineering:

Graph of corruption has gone up many folds over the past fifty years of our nation’s history. In order to control it, we need to educate coming generations about corruption, what corruption does to society, how this damages the very fabric of the nation and work on ways to keep our coming generations from indulging in this nuisance.

The new Canadian prime minister is implausibly good looking

Newly elected Canadian Prime Minister will make you wish to be a Canadian as well

By now, most Canadians are well acquainted with Canada's prime minister-designate, Justin Trudeau. Shortly after he became the prime minister-designate, The Mirror, a UK-based newspaper, ran a piece titled "Is Justin Trudeau the sexiest politician in the world?"

The name Justin Trudeau appeared in headlines across the globe after his Liberal Party swept to victory in Canada's federal elections, everyone got familiar with this name.

At 43, he is the second youngest prime minister to serve Canada and the first son or daughter of a prime minister to follow their parent back into office.

Social Media got overwhelmed by tweets after Trudeau's victory and everyone was amazed to see such a handsome and young Prime Minister.

The outgoing politician has declared himself a feminist, promised to protect women's abortion rights and will start work towards legalizing drugs "right away" once he assumes office.

It may sound bit awkward but yes he really said so, as they belonged to liberal political party so this may happen, marijuana can be legal.

Trudeau was compared to President Obama, who was 47 when he was elected to office and continues to be called a Pilf on Twitter, and John F. Kennedy, who at 43 was the youngest man to be elected to office in the US.

Trudeau was himself accused of sexism in 2013 after organizing a ‘ladies night’ event that promised “cocktails, candid conversation, curiosity inducing ideas” and the chance to “really get to know the future prime minister”, with questions for debate including “what’s your favorite virtue?”.

Trudeau's to-do list

Addressing jubilant supporters, Mr Trudeau said Canadians had "sent a clear message tonight: It's time for a change".

"We beat fear with hope, we beat cynicism with hard work. Most of all we defeated the idea that Canadians should be satisfied with less.

"This is what positive politics can do," he said, also praising Mr Harper for his service to the country.

During the 11-week election campaign, the Liberal Party said it would:

· Cut income taxes for middle-class Canadians while increasing them for the wealthy

· Run deficits for three years to pay for infrastructure spending

· Do more to address environmental concerns over the controversial Keystone oil pipeline

· Take in more Syrian refugees, and pull out of bombing raids against Islamic State while bolstering training for Iraqi forces

· Legalize marijuana.

So beyond he looks, after getting the news, Mr. Trudeau also thanked his people while travelling in a subway and greeting people for opting him in his new political role.

My Reply to "India's reply to Pak at UN"

PM Nawaz Sharif represented Pakistan and represented very well. He not only raised issues about terrorism but Kashmir was also main point highlighted from Pakistan's side. Well we are happy Kashmiris must be happy that at least someone somewhere still remembers them.

Guess what who is not happy from all this? Who is angry and that Kashmir issue is highlighted in UN General Assembly? Who is not happy that Pakistan broadcasted the message that we are suffering from Terrorism and this not Pakistan but the world as whole should come together to kill this cancer.

Yes no one else but our close neighbor "India" and Time of India came forefront to reply to Pakistan claims if you haven't read you can read here and laugh on the statements made by the great Times Of India

Here is my reply to  "India's reply to Pak at UN":

Well if you claim that all the points raised by PM Nawaz Sharif are allegations then how you proof your statements are not just lame excuses and are not false allegations. My dear TOI I believe this is your official statement as you did not mention these answers are coming from any expert or specific journalist.

So you must have read it and did proof reading of the "answers" before posting right? ok for example this one "It needs no imagination to figure out which side initiates this exchange."  yeah it needs no imagination.. Did you ask Kashmiris too? Ohh they answer India... I'm sorry that's what you said imagination right.

Well I'm not a journalist or not an expert in this field but I can answer each of your point. In your last point you said you are ready to dialogue with Pakistan but in "an atmosphere free of terrorism and violence." Well I thought we are going to discuss how to "stop terrorism and violence across the borders".

Ohh so you are waiting to stop terrorism and violence first and then discuss on terrorism and violence.. thumbs down to your demand and imagination. It's like after late night party you ask your friend to company you first to your home and then you will company him to his house :) in simple words you want "terrorism" and violence.... to end :)

Again your claims "Pakistan misuse the high-level segment of UN General Assembly"... and yes you are wrong and you forgot and did not google even that it was India who took Kashmir problem to the United Nations (UN) Security Council on 1 January and year was 1948

Trust me your each answer is just a lame and childish excuse and playing with words and far far from the facts. And please take a note I don't hate India, India as country is one the places on earth I want to visit. I have so many Indian friends and good ones they are educated and their mentality is not like you "Times of India". They know governments on both sides need to show some flexibility and work together only then you can beat "Terrorism" and "Violence".

Now one word
کشمیر بنے گا پاکستان

Ok ok that was اٹوٹ انگ I forgot!!!!!

but ....................... شہ رگ ??? O come on let Kashmiris decide this time :)

India's growing aggression cause 9 lives on Pakistan's boundary

India's attack on Pakistan's boundaries depicts more than violence, that is unending hatred.
Pakistan getting a lot of negative and unfriendly gestures from India nowadays. One of them was the recently launched film Phantom and later on the unprovoked firing on working boundries of Pakistam

That shelling killed at least nine civilians on Friday, after which Pakistan summoned the Indian High Commissioner to the foreign office and lodged protest over the ceasefire violation at Working Boundary.

Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry summoned Indian High Commissioner Dr TCA Raghavan and protested against the unprovoked firing from the Indian side of the border at Harpal and Chaprar that left six civilians dead and 47 injured including 22 women.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs read that three villages came under Indian shelling, including Kundunpur, Bajra Garhi and Thati . The Indian aggression left many houses damaged.

“Firing by the Indian side started at around 11:30 pm last night, when Pakistani troops confronted India for using an excavator, near the Working Boundary without following the established SOPs. Pakistani troops initially exercised restraint however, responded befittingly when India started heavy firing. The firing ended today at 11 am,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed his concerns over the ceasefire violation and the loss of six innocent lives in the cross-border firing.

At this moment when peace is need of hour, such violent and aggressive attacks from India by any mean could get more rage from Pakistan. The lives lost in Pakistan demands strong actions by the government beyond condemnation.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq disqualified, will the decision stand?

Courtesy: Online

PTI won the war but may be it is too early to make merry on the verdict, there is still long way for Insafians.
After hours of delay by election tribunal, they finally gave the decision of NA 122, by declaring polls in null and void. Tribunal asked to hold polls after two months, if the former speaker challenge the decision in supreme court which he announced to do.

After Justice Kazim Malik announced verdict, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq later on said that he accepts the tribunal’s judgment, adding that the tribunal had put the blame on election machinery.

“I respect the judgment and accept it but due to our reservations we will go to the Supreme Court,” he said.

He also said that the judgment was not about victory or defeat as he had also won the election in 2002.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq further said that MQM leaders’ resignations will now be taken by the Deputy Speaker Assembly after the tribunal judgment.

Commenting on the tribunal’s verdict, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hinted that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will back Sadiq’s appeal in the Supreme Court, stating that they will avail their legal rights.

Meanwhile, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq’s son Ali Ayaz Sadiq said that there was no mention of “rigging” in the tribunal’s report. He hinted that his father may appeal the verdict in Supreme Court.

My opinion on this is what if Supreme court annuls the tribunal's decision as it did the Saad Rafique case, I doubt this victory of PTI will be of no use.

Rescue and administration officials confirmed the death toll, adding that at least 17 other people were injured in the suicide blast, while rescue workers were still trying to recover the injured and dead from underneath the rubble.

According to reports, a jirga (open court) was underway at Khanzada’s political office in his native Shadi Khan village when the suicide attacker detonated his explosives. The blast caused the roof of the building to collapse under which the provincial home minister was trapped for several hours.

Several people were still trapped under the debris with rescue workers busy trying to rescue them.

The ISPR said that special search and rescue team equipped with high-tech machinery was aiding in the rescue operation in Attock.

Funeral prayers of the martyrs were offered in Attock Police Lines on Sunday night and attended by Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and CM Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak among others.

A former army-man, Khanzada assumed charge of the Punjab Home Ministry in October last year and was a major force in leading the law enforcement and security apparatus in several anti-terrorism operations. The provincial home minister was also the commander of the National Action Plan (NAP) in Punjab to combat militancy and terrorism.

After graduating from Islamia College Peshawar in 1966, Khanzada joined the Pakistan Army in 1967. He later took part in the 1971 war that led to the creation of Bangladesh. Elected two times and remained in assembly.

Sources in the interior ministry claim that banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) has taken responsibility of the suicide attack on Khanzada. They alleged Khanzada was under threat following the killing of LeJ chief Malik Ishaq in July.

A government official said police could not rule out the involvement of banned sectarian militant outfits against whom the government had launched a crackdown.

Principal of Aitchison College Lahore fired for being too honest

Principal of Aitchison College, Agha Ghazanfar, is has been removed from his post for not allowing nepotism under his watch and refusing to unfairly grant admission to the descendants of the rich and influential.

Aitchison college holds admission tests for K2 class every year, this year, however, some interesting things have happened. The first thing that went wrong was that the admission test question paper was leaked a few days before the exam and hence the college administration had to create a new question paper just one day prior to the test. Second interesting thing was that the scions of some of the most influential families of the country were to appear in this test, namely, grandsons of Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Banking tycoon, Mian Mansha, and ex Prime Minster, Yousaf Raza Gillani.

However, they were subsequently not granted admission because they failed to get enough marks to make it to the merit list posted on the college’s website recently. According to sources, after the failure of the grandsons of the rich and famous to score the desired marks to gain admission, the principal, Agha Ghazanfar, was pressured by the above-mentioned individuals to grant their grandsons admissions, irrespective of their score in the admission test. Mr Ghazanfar refused to cave in to their pressures.

Grandsons of Gillani, Sadiq and Mansha managed to score 40.22%, 18.78% and 19.44% respectively, much lower than the cutoff scores to gain admission. After repeatedly refusing to be dishonest, Mr Ghazanfar was told that he will lose his job if he does not grant admission to the grandsons of these influential personalities and was given one last warning, which he did not pay heed to. Mr Ghazanfar is due to be fired from his job tomorrow and all preparations to sack him have been completed.

Talking to a private channel, Mr Ghazanfar verified the story and said that Aitchison is increasingly becoming a hotbed for corruption and the authorities do not care about merit anymore.

Aitchison College, an old-boy school with illustrious alumni, used to be famous for adhering to principles and not giving admissions without merit.

Mr Gazanfar, whose contract was for 5 years initially, is being removed after serving for only one year in reward for his honesty and dedication to the institute.

Muttahida in hot waters again after BBC alleged for Indian funding, PM asks probe against party

MQM again alleged to be funded and get its men trained from India, and this may cause serious problems for the party as Imran Farooq murder case is also under process.
One of the biggest political parties of Pakistan is again under discussion as yesterday an international media organization BBC published a story about MQM alleging of getting aid from Indi; which the party refused.

After this story whole Pakistani media got alert and start airing the criticism and comments about this story.

MQM’s senior leaders denied the allegations and termed the news story as fake. Next day Pakistan Tehreek I Insaf chairman Imran Khan said in a press conference that if this story is fake then MQM should sue BBC for defamation. While Shah Mehmood Qureshi of PTI said that government’s silence on this story is unbearable.

Qureshi said, the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) had recently invited the MQM to join the Sindh government. He asked if the PPP's invitation still stands after the allegations levelled by the BBC.

Later on Thursday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the Interior Ministry to thoroughly investigate the claims made in the BBC report pertaining to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) receiving funding from India, and sought an early report in this regard.

Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan and Special Assistant to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on National Security and Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi met the premier at the Prime Minister House today. While in a press conference interior minister Chahdary Nisar said that the BBC story is not a valid source, but we will seek assistance from British authorities in this regard.

However, Nisar went on to say that these allegations should not be used to malign MQM as a political party. “There are plenty of respectable senior politicians and patriotic individuals in MQM who have done a lot for Pakistan. I request all of you not to link these allegations to MQM’s voters or supporters,” said the interior minister.

on the other hand, in an interview with one of the Pakistan media, British Journalist Owen Bannett Jones on Thursday said he stood by his BBC report that claimed the Muttahida Qaumi Movement was receiving Indian funding.

The story became new and hottest trend on social media and people seek answers from Muttahida Qaumi Movement in a from way which is beyond just statements.

MQM beats opponents in NA- 246 By-polls with astounded win

The MQM swept the by-polls in Karachi, retaining National Assembly seat NA-246 and beating its main contenders with a huge margin. The polls, followed by weeks of extreme frenzy, however showed a shift in the political demography of the constituency as the PTI replaced the JI as the second-most strong power in the area.

According to unofficial and unconfirmed results from the total 213 polling stations, Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) candidate Kanwar Naveed Jamil led the polls with 93,125 votes.

Imran Ismail of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was second with 22,885 votes while Jamat-e-Islami’s Rashid Naseem was third by securing over 8,000 votes.

For the first time in the country’s electoral history, closed circuit cameras were installed at the polling points, besides deployment of law enforcement personnel in and outside the polling stations.

The Election Commission of Pakistan was yet to announce the results but PTI candidate Imran Ismail said his party, which contested the election with a promise of change and freeing the people of the area of MQM’s ‘fear’, will accept the results.

In the vote count, the MQM gained visible win at majority of the polling booths while at few stations PTI and JI secured higher number of votes.

Earlier during the polling, MQM leader Haider Abbas Rizvi reached at PTI camp and took PTI candidate Imran Ismail to MQM election camp in the same locality where both the leaders had tea together.

Charged MQM activists got violent and set the PTI party flags on fire while law enforcement agencies rushed to the spot.

PTI leader Shireen Mazari tweeted in the evening: Shameful behaviour by MQM attacking PTI office, ripping our flexes and flag! Such fascist behaviour after a relatively peaceful election. In another tweet later at night, she said: MQM is Pakistan’s equivalent of Nazi party.

MQM chief Altaf Hussain while talking to TV channels congratulated the supporters on the party’s victory. Lauding the efforts of the MQM workers, he said they were ‘much brave’ as compared to those of the other parties and they had brought the people out of the homes for voting resulting in a good turnout.

Several people were arrested after the clash in which a PTI flag was torched and its camp office was surrounded by reportedly angry MQM activists. Several PTI workers and supporters were trapped inside the camp.

MQM’s win was expected but after raid on nine zero, PTI and Jamat e Islami were pretty sure that MQM is not going to take NA 246 seat but it happened vice versa. It was considered the most powerful constituency of MQM as it was Altaf Hussain’s constituency.

China opened economic corridors for “all weather” friend

The economic figure would far exceed US spending in Pakistan and underscores China’s economic ambitions in Asia and beyond.

Islamabad had a busy day, because of Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Pakistan to launch projects linking the allies worth US$46 billion.

President Xi Jinping promised to build roads, ports and power plants on the first visit by a Chinese head of state to Pakistan in almost a decade.

Xi and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif witnessed the signing of 51 pacts on Monday, including an ''All-Weather'' strategic partnership that seeks to formalize longstanding defense ties between the nations.

The agreements signed were valued at $28 billion, according to Pakistani Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. The infrastructure and energy projects are aimed at establishing a Pakistan-China “economic corridor” between Pakistan’s southern Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea and China’s western Xinjiang region.

Pakistani Parliament defense committee chairman Mushahid Hussain Sayed said, the plan is part of China’s aim to forge “Silk Road” land and sea ties to markets in the Middle East and Europe, and reflects a shift of economic power in the region to China.

“Pakistan, for China, is now of pivotal importance. This has to succeed and be seen to succeed,” he added.

A network of roads, railways and pipelines, is to pass through Pakistan’s poor Baluchistan Province, where a long-running separatist insurgency, which the army has again vowed to crush, will raise doubts about the feasibility of the plan. Recently 20 laborers were killed by extremist separatists.

The security of Chinese workers is a prime concern for Xi. In talks with Mr. Sharif and military leaders, Mr. Xi is also likely to raise China’s fears that Muslim separatists from Xinjiang are teaming up with Pakistani militants.

“Our cooperation in the security and economic fields reinforce each other, and they must be advanced simultaneously,” Xi said in a statement to media on the eve of his two-day visit.

Xi is expected to call for greater efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan, where Pakistan is keen to restrict the influence of its rival, India.

China is set to provide up to US$37 billion in investment for the energy projects to generate 16,400 megawatts of power, Pakistani Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal said.

Concessional loans are to cover nearly US$10 billion of infrastructure projects.

The US has given US$31 billion to Pakistan since 2002, according to the US Congressional Research Service. About two-thirds was earmarked for security.

If realized, the investments will help Mr. Sharif to revive Pakistan's economy, which suffers from chronic power failures and an insurgency that has killed more than 50,000 people since 2001. Mr. Sharif has received a loan from the International Monetary Fund but if he fails to do so the biggest opposition of the time will lead to more distress for Sharif’s government.

On the other hand there was high security alert in Islamabad and people’s life was affected a lot. Social media saw a huge trending of Chinese President’s arrival and media channels gave full coverage to the event.
