I appreciate ban on Porn Websites and obscene SMS in Pakistan

I appreciate ban on Porn Websites and obscene SMS in Pakistan, this is indeed a good step. Being an Islamic Republic these thing should strictly be banned in whole country.

I have no concern what are the government's intentions whether they want to block anti Govt. SMS's or any other intention. But this will surely gonna help thousands people in Pakistan. This pornography is curse, China our neighbor country have already blocked such websites. Javed Chaudry a famous writer also highlighted the same issue in his recent article. He gave a real life example of a boy who is son of Mr. Iqbal. When he met him in 1997, he was very intelligent even in his young age of 6, he remembered lot of thing about the politics and general knowledge. Than after that curse hit the boy when his father bought him a laptop and internet and then boy's life ruined. He got addicted to pornography, even he started drugs when Javed Chaudhry met him again in 2010 he could not believe he the boy who met him in his child hood. In the end he proved this pornographic materiel is a curse for Pakistani nation more than a suicide attacker.

This will be appreciated if Govt. of Paksitan strictly order all ISP's to ban such materials permanently. This is not big deal just few clicks of mouse Pakistan could get rid this rubbish. These thing are really hurting Pakistan's young generation.

Recommendation for Parents:
To keep your child away from such websites, put some checks on your child and the system they use.

  1. Put the PC some where in common room from where the computer screen is easily watch able.  Don't need to spy on your child just notice the screen some time while passing by.
  2. Don't allow your child to access internet/PC from his/her room, laptop should not be allowed at least up to 12 standard.
  3. Go to http://www1.k9webprotection.com/ download the Web Protection software install it on your child's PC or laptop. This is very easy to use and very effective. Must do it now. I have been using it for one year and its free.
  4. If your child is boy allow him to play PC games, encourage him to keep his interest on this side instead of that big curse.
  5. For all children specially for girls of young age must put check and ask them whom are they chatting who are in their friend list? Mom's should ask her daughters about their friends in college/school. and strictly order to stay away from bad community not even online/chatting.
  6. Discuss personal and Islamic values and standards about what's acceptable and about having a sense of responsibility.
  7. Never give them a webcam they never need it.
  8. Let your child know that she can approach you with any questions or concerns about behaviors or problems she may have encountered on the computer.
I will also suggest read the recent article of Javed Chaudhry published on 22 Nov 2011. You can also read that article here http://www.pakistanprobe.blogspot.com

  1. Well, I want answer of just one question. You've blocked the word "whore" on sms. What about the huge Red Light in Lahore and other cities?

They are open to everyone and no-one ever raised a single point against them including the Islamic organizations in Pak. So you or your child cannot text whore to someone but well, they can have one.

Is this the way you do things?? NO!! You cannot ask someone hungry not to eat unhealthy food if you've placed it in front of him. You've to educate your children from schools. You are teaching them porn, yes, I'd like to say that again that your children are being taught porn. You stuff their mind with useless things, no healthy activities, no sports, nothing for them to relax. Where'd they do? PORN!
You run programs/ads of half-naked women whole day on your TV and you expect people not to watch them? This is bizarre!!

The actual thing is that govt. first needs to educate themselves and then device ways to control the things. Banning things is never a positive way to solve issues. In fact it urges banned targets to carry out their activities in more aggressive manner.

  2. Umair, I agree with you that the ban might not solve the overall problem of watching porn or visiting whores etc. BUT do you think PTA is responsible for the overall situation? Is banning the red light areas or eliminating bai-hayai in our society also a responsibility of PTA?

We should appreciate PTA for at least taking a step forward. And, we should hope that this step would at least make our so called religious scholars/ leaders think about the other bigger issues you mentioned.

P.S. In the latest news, PTA has decided to take back the decision of filtering/ banning SMS contents so its useless to debate on this issue now. This shows how helpless our institutions are!

  3. Sites and sms both should be banned along with the Red light area. But this won't ever be done so there is no point of arguing ;)
