Vaccines worth $3.7 Million wasted, 2 suspended

Pakistan is facing great risk of Polio; many particular people belonging to many communities do not cooperate with government and feel that polio drops will harm their children.

Reportedly, Two Pakistani men have suspended for wasting vaccines worth a whopping $ 3.7 million provided by UNICEF to protect children from deadly diseases. The wasted medicines were combination of different vaccines and were used to immunize children against tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, Hepatitis B, meningitis and pneumonia.

Minister of state for National Health Services Saira Afzal Tarar said that some official have been suspended and a probe has been launched to find if more people were involved. Tarar said the vaccines were ruined because of “departmental conflicts.”

However, an official of Health Ministry said that the frequent power outage was the main cause of the loss as top bosses failed to address the problem despite complaints by lower staff.

Somehow, those who did it deliberately or ignorantly must be interrogated seriously. Those medicines could save so many lives but such loss will damage our country and reputation. Any kind of personal conflict should not affect lives of many. Measures should be taken so no such incident happen again.
