H&O services are determined to change the fate of blue collar employees

Technology has changed our lives and the way we use to live. One example of such brilliant new way of offering services to make life better is H&O services. They are working hard to close the gap between demand makers and the services suppliers.

25 years old Mudassar Sharif after graduating from LUMS thought to do something worthy for his people. The team consists Mudassar Sharif, founder and CEO, Muhammad Ashfaq, field manager, Maham Ejaz, marketing manager and Nawaz, business development manager. The board of directors consists entrepreneurs, educationists, and scientists. Which depicts the team is strong and has the dedication to do some good for the people. He told that his mentor was having a startup named Kamata Pakistan, and when we bring this idea to him, he guided the team at his fullest to make this dream become a reality.

Team H&O not only provides hassle free hiring but also give basic health allowance, training to enhance efficiency, health insurance and help in child’s education to their registered workers. 

The Mission:

Mudassar’s vision is to improve our society with technology and innovation. In a conversation with PakistanProbe, Mudassar told that this project was officially launched a year ago, but they got an overwhelming response.

The Social Innovation Lab incubate says H&O services is not just a website but a whole company with staff and field workers. Blue collar workers are very much in demand and people are searching them on the internet, it was his idea to pop up in this situation and make the demand maker meet suppliers through their mediation.

He added that supply side is pretty challenging. Workers are not eligible to use technologies but the demand makers can and that’s where we connect these both.

The Recruitment Process:

Mr. Sharif told that we recruit domestic helpers by field search and have contacts with some NGOs too, which help us in placing unemployed people on jobs.

They have registered 600 workers from different areas of Pakistan but are providing services in Lahore only. Out of 250 interviewed people matching with the demand of the customers, they have placed almost 75 people on jobs. 

He also told us that in a year more than 500 people contacted them while the number is increasing day by day.

Being a social enterprise, H&O services keep in mind the other social factors as well. The company has collaborated with an NGO Dastak, and lawyers too, for handling any unwanted situation. 

Mudassar says, “We do not promote child labor at all and if workers have children then we convince them to send kids for education. H&O find government schools in their locality and provide the basic and necessary things which school is not providing.”

The company has also made a strategy to counter domestic violence or women abuse though no such case was seen till now. They have charted a whole plan for making workers safe.

“We understand our responsibility, and stay in touch with workers. We highlight the violence and try our best to keep worker and employer happy. The company is also trying to register with Punjab Labor Department so that workers can get more benefits out of it.” Mr. Sharif added. 

He further said, “We are too much occupied in Lahore, and giving services in posh areas only. People usually find us expensive and we prefer giving more salary to the workers. People support us in this cause and willing to pay those workers more. Our business model is different that is why people prefer us.”

No load shedding in Sehr, Iftar but rest cannot be assured

Prime Minister Nawaz presided a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy in the federal capital city and gave our nation a good news of no load shedding during Sehr and Iftar times.

He directed authorities on Thursday to ensure hassle-free power supply during ‘Sehr’ and ‘Iftar’ timings across the country in the Holy month of Ramadan.

Giving a look on general electricity load shedding timings, we will find that in this hot summer we spend hours without electricity. So if you will be enjoying electricity in Sehr and Iftar we cannot say that you whole day when you will be fasting will be spent with electricity as well.

The meeting also reviewed progress on various ongoing power generation projects besides future plans to overcome load-shedding.

Pakistani people had witnessed worst of it and in summers especially. According to meteorological office moon soon season is expected sooner in Ramadan.

It is said that there will be no load shedding then this could be concluded that whole day people can suffer from load shedding. But if the weather remains good it will be helpful for people to observe fast.

Load shedding is one of the biggest issues Pakistan is facing and every government says to eradicate this but everyone fails. People are waiting for relief but we can just pray that the luxury of electricity keeps coming to us for the rest as well not only during Ramadan.

Police and Lawyers clash in Daska erupted violence in town

Lawyers around the country protesting over this brutality of Punjab Police, which is already notorious for its inhuman behavior and bad conduct.

An anti-encroachment drive turned violent and ended with clash between lawyers and Police. As per reports at least two lawyers were killed in clashes with police in Punjab province's Daska city, forcing authorities to deploy paramilitary forces to contain the unrest.

The incident occurred after police and the district administration were carrying out an anti-encroachment operation in Daska city when a group of lawyers asked them not to bulldoze a few shops as the matter was pending in a court.

However the police went ahead with the drive that led to violent clashes with lawyers and local residents, local media reported.

Three lawyers sustained bullet injuries after police opened fire. All the injured were rushed to a nearby hospital where Rana Khalid Abbas, president of the Daska Bar Association and another lawyer were not able to sustain and lost their lives.

The lawyers alleged that station house officer of Daska Shahzad Warraich opened fire on the protesting lawyers and made the clash violent.

The lawyers' fraternity took to streets in different districts of Punjab and protested against the police brutality as the report hits TV Channels.

The situation remained uncontrollable for hours and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif took notice of the incident. He ordered a probe, seeking a report from the authorities concerned. Mr. Sharif said in a statement "Nobody will be allowed to take the law into their own hands".

Pakistan Rangers took control of the deteriorating law and order situation in Daska. Lawyers in Lahore tried to enter the Punjab Assembly where the session was underway. The opposition boycotted the session over the killing of two lawyers.

Lahore High Court Chief Justice Manzoor Ahmed took notice of the incident and ordered deployment of Rangers in Daska.

A couple of days back few masked men attacked journalists in Karachi and thrashed them. Now the bad law and order situation in Daska has erupted more anger in people. Lawyers and Journalists had been remained under targets.

HEC University Ranking of Pakistan for Year 2013-2014

ISLAMABAD: Quaid-e-Azam University in Islamabad came out on top of the Higher Education Commission’s list of university rankings in Pakistan for the year 2013-14, released on Monday.

University of Agriculture in Faisalabad and University of Punjab in Lahore secured second and third positions respectively, as per the HEC.

After much effort, the herculean task of collecting, analysing and the final evaluation for the new ranking was made possible.

Further, Allama Iqbal Open University and Virtual University were excluded from the list for providing incomplete data.

LUMS has not been listed in the business category as it has vast areas of subjects now, unlike the past, Ahmad told The Express Tribune.

The HEC rankings were based on the implementation status of quality assurance, teaching quality, research produced at the universities, finance and facilities for social integration and community development.

 IBA tops rankings for Business Education

The Institute of Business Administration (IBA) emerged as the highest-ranked university in the category of Business Education.

Lahore School of Economics and Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) in Karachi followed on the second and third rank for business, respectively.

NUST tops rankings for Engineering & Technology

National University of Sciences and Technology (Nust) in Islamabad was declared to be the best university in the “Engineering & Technology” category, bringing previously ranked number one in the category, Pakistan Institute of Engineering & Applied Sciences (PIEAS), Islamabad, to second place.

Aga Khan University tops rankings for Medicine

Aga Khan University was accorded the highest rank in the disciplines of “Medicine”. The medical university in Karachi was followed by University of Health Sciences in Lahore and DOW University of Health Sciences in Karachi, respectively.

Shama and Shahzad's murderers indicted by court

Pakistan saw a case of lynching a couple alive last year and from that time the human rights activists were asking for the trial of culprits who accused those two people of blasphemy and burnt them alive.

Reportedly an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Pakistan indicted 106 suspects in connection with their alleged role in the lynching of that Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan.

60 kilometers southwest located area of Lahore is a poor people’s area where mostly the labor class lives.

The court has also issued summons to witnesses to appear on Friday to record their statements against the suspects involved in the lynching case of Shama and Shahzad.

The charge sheet states that Maulvi Mohammad Hussain, Maulvi Arshad Baloch and Maulvi Noorul Hassan were involved in persistent provocative speech against the couple which led to the assembly of 400 people who then burnt Shama and Shahzad alive.

The court has also held Yousaf Gujjar, the owner of a brick kiln where the couple was beaten to death, responsible.

The enraged mob beat the Christian couple to death in November last year for allegedly desecrating a copy of the Holy Quran and burnt their bodies in the brick kiln where they worked.

The government is under pressure for not taking the culprits under trial and letting them free. The painful incident was discussed on many forums and people demanded amendments in blasphemy law. This was not the first case. Former Governor Punjab Salman Taseer was shot by his guard for providing assistance to blasphemy accused Christian girl.

Two Christian Women defaced by acid attack in Pakistan

Throwing acid is a common way to take revenge from anyone. It was reported yesterday that two young Pakistani Christian women suffered severe burns when a man sprayed acid on them in Baluchistan’s Quetta city. 27 years old Rimsha Masih and 16 years old Hina Masih, were rushed to hospital after the incident in the market in Basit Panchait on Kasi road commercial area.

The area has a large Christian population. Both were taken to nearby Hopital after the attack. “Rimsha’s face was 30 per cent affected whereas 15 per cent of Hina’s face was burnt in the attack,” Dr. Masood Nowsherwani at the Bolan Medical College hospital said.

Quetta police officer Razzaq Cheema said the families of the two girls had accused a Christian man, Vijay Masih, for the crime. Mr. Cheema said the incident appeared to be linked to some old enmity over a rejected marriage proposal.

Last year, at least four women were sprayed with acid-filled syringes in different parts of Baluchistan, while in 2011, four female Baloch school teachers were attacked with acid by unknown culprits.

Acid, found easily and cheaply across Pakistan has been used a weapon to exact 'revenge' in domestic violence cases. The victims are often left with no legal help and suffer severe psychological trauma as well facing social stigma which comes with disfigurement.

It has become a usual practice buy culprits remain free and enjoy liberty.

Orange Revolution will be coming to Lahore soon, 165 billions approved

The orange line metro train is being financed by the Punjab from its own resources with a concessional loan from the Chinese government.

Metro bus system introduced by Punjab Government has now a new form which is more advance.

The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) cleared the Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project costing Rs165.20 billion, and referred it to Ecnec for final approval.

The project envisages construction of 27.1km long dedicated signal-free corridor for train mass transit system in Lahore.

Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who chaired the CDWP meeting, asked the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) which will execute the project to ensure completion of the mega project in 27 months.

The authority did a marvelous job in Metro Bus System construction as well.

The corridor will be capable of accommodating two trains running on both ways with design capacity of the system at 30,000 passengers per hour.

Iqbal laid emphasis on transfer of technology for building the indigenous capacity to construct such mass transit system by signing a memorandum of understanding with the Chinese company.

Commercial spaces should be conceived at the metro stations architecture to help overcome the big difference in the operational cost and revenue of the mass transit, he said.

In total, the CDWP cleared seven projects worth Rs180bn, including the orange line metro project. Four projects worth Rs2.362bn were approved; three projects worth Rs177.7bn were recommended to Ecnec.

We can predict it as the orange revolution which is going to come Lahore and change the way people travel. Here is the concern, will government be able to recover the deficit? As the Metro Bus has huge deficit amount which is not recovered, will orange Metro Train be a successful project for such an urban crowded city like Lahore? We will wait for the answers.

The next “Hot Ride” is Pink Rickshaw on the roads of Lahore

Have you ever imagined that a women should be a bus or rickshaw driver so that so many of our sisters could have safe rides and move around freely without fear of being molested, harassed or abducted by the auto man?

Well I have dream of it and now it seems that the women are going to conquer the old and stereotype mindsets of our society. The commutation is biggest issue of every woman or girl going out from home for different purposes. Government of Punjab tried to resolve it by providing bus facilities and a special Pink Bus which will only carry female passengers but it somehow failed.

Now another initiative of Government of Punjab is to run “Pink Rickshaws” which will not only carry female passengers but also female drivers. The sassy color will tell you that it is for the women and by the women.

Sounds pretty amazing but do not forget it will bring so many other hazards for female drivers. Though the cultural barriers are going to be removed by these sassy pink rickshaws and female drivers. It will also help them to earn their bread and butter and keep the wheel of life moving. This new opportunity will lead to endless opportunities and those who are incapable of working in offices or abhor bossy behavior of people can have their own business which is easy and affordable for them.

Although many women pool cars’ rides but no one had this kind of vehicle which is actually a modernized auto rickshaw and adopt it as a profession. The new design has safe and covered sitting for both driver and passenger; and it could also save them from being showy on signals.

I was expecting that women will be riding Scotties in near future but now I see a broader spectrum in front of me for those who are illiterate or want to do something less hectic.

This will also make women financially independent, although they have to face much criticism from society and driving auto rickshaw on the roads is not at all an easy job, but I hope they will succeed, as women can do anything in the world. They will break the old barriers and will become a good example for our new generation.

Now many women and girls can move on freely and without fear of being harassed. The initiative deserves praise but Government should not also forget the pros and cons of the business, the special workshops should also be made and specialized mechanics should be hired for the maintenance so they don’t need to get into hazards of local workshops and their processes for maintenance.

Want some "Jalaibee"? I bet you'll regret

Recently released with a bang, Pakistani film “Jalaibee” did not get much appreciation after its release. As the weak and Bollywood type story of the movie remained incapable of getting much attention of people. The cinematography was done very professionally and with an Arri Alexa camera which had great result on screen, but it also showed minute errors and flaws of the movie which looked bizarre. It twisted audiences' minds but also came to naught.

The cast is very strong and good except few ones, The Mafia King’s role was played by Veteran Actor Sajid Hasan, street criminals Danish Taimoor as Billu and Ali Safina as Bagga, the bar dancer Zhalay Sarhadi as Bunnu, King’s dumb and beautiful daughter was Sabeeka Imam as Iman, King’s closest man Adnan Jafar as Dara and the avengers Waqr ali as Ali Jamal and Uzair Jaswal as Jimmy.

Story is full of stupid twists and they claim it the best so far action thriller movie of the times, which after watching the movie seems like a rumor. The story is written and directed by Yasir Jaswal and he spend heavy amount on making this movie which he might not be able to get back. The producer is Eman syed and movie came under ARY Films and Redrum Films banner. No doubt it’s a complete flop.

Movie has mixed Urdu and English dialogues, which do not pull together. The story is like a Mafia Don named King killed a man, whose foreign qualified sons come back to Pakistan for avenging their father’s blood. Elder son Ali traps King’s daughter Iman and kidnaps her father by getting information from her.

While two street criminals who indirectly work for King lost the stolen money, and Dara, who is King’s man, asks them to return money by day after tomorrow. The goofy Bagga and angry young man Billu steals a car (P.S. a hot yellow Mustang 70 the original attraction in whole movie, which contains kidnapped mafia gang leader) and finds someone in dickey. Out of fear Billu shoots that man and is off to a casino which he wants to rob with the help of a bar dancer Bunnu. Poor Billu is screwed up badly because Dara owns that casino; and he became furious when saw Billu and Bagga looted the casino.

After all the incidents everybody dies, nobody gets the money; but the lone survivor is the real villain of the movie, about whom I will not disclose because I don’t want to kill you curiosity here although every scene was predictable. The action scenes were given Hollywood touch while the movie looked like a 90’s Bollywood style storyline which lost attention even before interval. Background music was sometimes so dull that it killed the punch lines and soul of scene. Otherwise the songs included are better than the story. Waqar overacted in some scenes but Sajid Hasan and Zhalay were phenomenal, Yasir could have made best use of their talent but he failed to do so.

Zhalay performed an item number “Jawani” but in a covered manner and was pretty good with her acting and dance. Later on the covered performer i.e. bunno was roaming with Billu and Bagga in a short hot black dress which looked so unreal. Many flaws and blunders which anyone can point out but the appreciation is for making a movie and trying to revive the cinema culture.

IMDB rates movie as 7.2 but near me it deserves less than 5. Yasir jaswal can do better work with an original screenplay and we are looking forward for some work in future. On the contrary we feel sorry for his loos of 100 million because the movie had earned till now 40 million, out of which a large amount was given by Real State Tycoon Malik Riaz, he bought almost 10,000 tickets for Bahria Residents.

Christian community of Lahore targeted, bomb blast near churches killed more than 10

Once again the city is flooded with blood of innocent people and minorities are on target now. At least 15 people were killed and more than 80 injured when two Taliban suicide bombers attacked churches in Lahore on Sunday. Violent mob sparked and which caused two other suspected militants dead.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) splinter group Jamatul Ahrar claimed responsibility for the twin blasts near Saint John Catholic Church and Christ Church in Youhanabad area. It is the country’s biggest Christian locality, housing at least one million people, mostly belonging to lower middle and middle class.

According to the reports, the blasts went off minutes apart in a majority Christian suburb of the eastern city. Police said it seemed they targeted two churches, one Catholic and one Protestant that are very close to each other.

Police cordoned-off the entire area and the injured were shifted to Lahore General Hospital. The condition of several wounded is reported as critical. A large number of people have gathered at the hospital.

Following the blasts, enraged residents lynched two men they suspected of involvement, a police official said.

However, police present there did not stop the mob from 'executing' the suspects, reports said.

According to sources, some unknown miscreants opened fire near one Church after which the blast occurred whereas a suicide bomber explode himself outside the second Church on being stopped at the gate.

Meanwhile, protesters launched a demonstration outside General Hospital against the Punjab government. Sloganeering continues against the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The enraged protesters demand accountability, and said proper security was not provided to the churches, a Dawn report said.

As per media reports, members of the Christian community also took to the streets and staged protests in Karachi's Esa Nagri area against the bomb attacks on churches in Lahore.

Angry Christians also did not allow two ministers, top police and district administration officials to visit the blast sites. Christians in Faisalabad, Nankana Sahib, Sargodha, Multan, Karachi and Peshawar also took to the streets to protest the attack on churches.

However, Bishop of Lahore, Irfan Jamil, has appealed to Christians to stay calm and not let terrorists succeed in their design.

"Terrorists want to destroy the peace of this country. They are attacking mosques, Imam bargahs and markets. Like minorities they are also attacking Muslims," he said.

Due to the deadly blasts, all missionary schools in Pakistan would remain closed to mourn those killed in the attacks. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also condemned the attack and called it a cowardly act.

Meanwhile, the Lahore police have registered two separate cases -- one against the attack on the two churches and the other against the people involved in killing of the two 'suspects' who were lynched and burnt alive.

According to an initial police report, the terrorists wearing the suicide jacket had stuffed it with five kg of explosives each.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has announced Rs. 500,000 for those killed in the attack and Rs. 75,000 for the injured.

Super Model Ayyan Arrested for Money Laundering

When fame is utilized for negative purposes it brings shame to the person and to the community. Pakistani supermodel Ayyan was arrested Saturday at the Benazir International Airport after customs allegedly recovered $500,000 from her luggage.

21-year old model was travelling to Dubai from Islamabad, currency was found when the luggage was booked on a flight was checked, customs officials said.

A money laundering case was registered against her as customs regulations do not allow taking such a huge sum of undeclared money out of the country, they said.

An investigation has been launched and Ayyan was taken to a government hospital for medical check-up as routine since female offenders are medically examined before being lodged in jail.

Under law, money laundering is punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which shall not be less than one year but may extend to 10 years.

The offence is also liable to fines which may extend to Rs1 million and also forfeiture of property involved in the money-laundering.

Cash grants will be given to mothers for enrolling their daughters: Maleeha Lodhi

Nations Maleeha Lodhi said on Saturday that conditional cash grants are being given to those mothers who enroll their daughters in schools.

Addressing the Catalytic Partnerships for Gender Equality in Education event in United Nations, the ambassador said Pakistan has launched innovative schemes and pilot projects for girls’ education.

Lodhi also said that the education voucher scheme launched in Punjab, as well as conditional grants that were given in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) have helped in promoting education in Pakistan.

Highlighting the importance of girls’ education, speakers at an interactive session had also stressed the need for increasing the education budget.

The event, held in connection with the International Women’s Day at a hotel on Saturday, was moderated by Najma Pirzada while the panel comprised rights activist Farzana Bari, education reformer Mehnaz Aziz, mountaineer Samina Baig, social entrepreneur Fiza Farhan and poet Kishwar Naheed.

If the government succeed enrolling more girls for education this would be the most acclaimed step taken yet. The girl’s education is needed and it should be promoted by all means. Such steps would lead poor parents to send their daughters schools rather than marrying them at young ages or sending them to work.

Taseer family offered blood money to save Qadri

Pakistani judiciary remained persistent over Mumtaz Qadri’s capital punishment. Pakistani religious parties representing the Barelvi school of thought have offered blood money to the family of murdered Punjab governor Salman Taseer to pardon his killer Mumtaz Qadri.

A former police commando, Mumtaz Qadri, who was guarding former governor, shot Taseer dead with his official gun in Islamabad in 2011 for criticizing Pakistan's controversial blasphemy law. The blood money was offered after Islamabad High Court on Monday rejected his appeal against conviction by a lower court and upheld his death penalty.

Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan (JUP), the Jamaat Ahle Sunnat, the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek and the Pakistan Sunni Alliance offered blood money to taseer family yesterday. "We are ready to pay much more Khoonbaha (blood money) to the family of Salman Taseer (for Qadri's release)," said Shabbir Abu Talib of the JUP.

He referred to the case of CIA contractor Raymond Davis who was freed after paying blood money to families of two men he killed in Lahore in 2011. According to Islamic jurisprudence, a killer can be pardoned by the legal heirs of the victim with or without taking blood money. Qadri is considered a hero by some extremist groups for killing the governor who had branded the blasphemy law as a 'black law'.

The difference between the Raymond case and Taseer case is that victim belonged to lower financial background in former while Tasseer family is well off and does not need money. All they want is justice, the murder of Salman Taseer tells that extremist and radical people do not give a second thought before taking any step.
